Food blog: Royal Caribbean Jamaican Patties

If you're tired of the usual popcorn and iced tea before heading to the movie house in Market Market, you might want to check out this little snack bar around!

Royal Caribbean Jamaican Patties serve more than just different flavors of Jamaican patties but also iced tea, shakes and drinks. They are located at the 5/F of Market Market near the cinema.

We visited this shop to try out their patties. But I was surprised to see that they also have baked mac and cookies (for the kids!).

Fond of spicy food? Oh you'll love their selection of beef patties! For me, I like meat but I want it cheesy so their premium best-sellers Cheeze flavor are my fave. They also have Chicken Royale, Tuna Royale and Vegetable Supreme if you're not fond of beef.

Jamaican patties are one of my fave snacks after the day. I just love its meat and the crunchy, flaky shell and its fits student budget whenever I need my quick lunch fix!                                          Plus it's very handy to eat whenever. Grab and go!

However, if you're not really in a hurry you might want to experience the Carribean snack bar feel inside. They have some magazines if you want to stay and read, and the window/mirrors inside are cool!

Customers usually take-out food and drinks, especially the movie-goers. While families usually stay inside to enjoy their patties. This spot where I was seated is perfect for barkadas and large groups!

Next time you visit Market, Market , stop by Royal Caribbean Jamaican Patties shop and try their hot patties too!

'Til next,

Don't Want An Ending: Sam Tsui and Kurt Schneider in Manila!

"At  least tonight, it's just you and me and honestly, that's everything I need…"

I don't go to concerts. Only few artists nowadays are really worth watching live I suppose. Aside from the expensive tickets, I'm very picky of  the artists; I choose those who I could look up to and will surely inspire me. Because a night with them is just for entertainment, but good memories and experiences are much more treasured long time.

I've known these artists since 2011 but I've only got to "fangirl" over them early this year. Sam Tsui looked like my former crush and I only knew him for his version of "Jar of Hearts" and "Just a Dream" (with Christina Grimmie).  Kurt Schneider…, well, he's Kurt Schneider. He's not really that high profile person so I barely know him.
Until early this year a lot of my friends shared a video of the cover of "Counting Stars" by Alex Goot, Chrissy Constanza, and Kurt. I don't even know them back then and I haven't even heard the original song! But then I gave up and watched it and found everything; from the prod, music and direction; cool. Then here's the Let it Go/Let her Go mash-up of Sam Tsui which I also found very cleverly done. These vids on replay, a friend of mine pointed out Kurt to be her crush and told me that he's so great in instruments and has that adorable personality. Wondered, I stream over Kurt's channel during my free times and that's where the rabbit hole started.

Sam Tsui and Kurt Schneider were schoolmates and graduates of Yale University, who love music so much they started making music videos around 2009. Sam has that incredible vocal range that suits ballads and pop very well, while Kurt ,although has that mellow voice, he doesn't sing much but does the production, recording, direction, arrangement and acoustics. He's known for playing various instruments known to mankind (haha!). Well, that's very basic intro if you're not a fangirl of these two. But in my own terms, these tandem make me discover originals from their covers and find the latter very well done. They also make originals, which are also greatly (and mostly) written by Kurt and performed by Sam. As of now I love Kurt's one-take shots of Bruno Mars medley and Maroon 5 medley while I can't stop singing Sam Tsui's mashups, Summer Pop Medley, Michael Jackson medley, and originals: Make it Up, Shadow, Grey Area and Don't Want an Ending.

Now, I knew why my friend liked Kurt! And I do love him too!
Just this summer I promised that if ever they would schedule a concert here in the Philippines, I would surely go and watch these two perform. And behold, just few weeks after that realization of mine, they announced that they will have a two-night show here in June! The ticket prices were fine, even though we only have few weeks to save up. I got really excited and we all planned to watch.
I also included it to my birthday wish list! Well, look who greeted me! So adorable Kurt! :3

Even though I wasn't contacted to cover their press con, I am one of those people who's interested more about Kurt's stories and experiences behind the camera and on the song sheets. I'm the kind of person who appreciates the art in the production and hopes to give proper credit to them. On the other hand, I also want to ask Sam about his choice of songs and future developments on the genre. As of now I'm liking how their choice of songs fits the singer's range and personality. However, if you're not just fan but also a critic, you might find this very safe sometimes. Fortunately, they do mash-ups and medleys which are fresh and fun so, that's kudos!
But what I've heard from the press release, they said that "In the end of the day, we are just kids who love music", which I really find inspiring and humble. Only few artists give sincere love to their fans and as a fan, I do appreciate how they reach out.

So really, what's the reason not to watch SamKurtMNL?
Well for us, studies! Haha! And we lack funds. In fact I just had my ticket by June 24 sponsored by my friend Irish, because she can't go. Well, I assured that she will be avenged… so I documented the concert well!

I attended the June 26 concert. And that was a rainy day and there was heavy traffic that made me arrive around 9pm! I thought I was already late for the concert but fortunately the concert just started around ten minutes later.

Ayosdito.ph iBall 2014

Another event full of media and bloggers, AyosDito.ph iBall 2014 was an interactive appreciation party to let the community and users know more about our trusty buy and sell site.

I've been invited to this gathering two years ago but I wasn't available that time, but now I wouldn't miss the chance! Last year we've been using this site to buy a car and I'm one of the most interested to know how everything goes in there. Aside from that, it was hosted by the internet action star Ramon Bautista (seeing him in UP wasn't easy though haha XD), Jojo the Love Survivor (of Magic 89.9), and Boys Night Out DJs Tony Toni, Slick Rick and Sam YG!

Birthday Buffet at DADS!

Birthdays only come once in a year so I better make the most out of it. So my family decided to take advantage of the birthday buffet promo at DADS for my 19th birthday. Almost all buffet restos have this promo where the birthday celebrant could have a free buffet either on the day of their birthday or within the week. At DADS, you can avail of it everyday, Lunch and Dinner, within the week of your birthday, that "3days before until 3 days after your birthday" promo. It's a good deal since their lunch buffet rate is just P488/pax (promo rate in SM Megamall with crossover to Saisaki and Kamayan, where we ate.) I just brought a copy of my birth certificate and filled out a form after to avail of the promo.

They open at 11am in Megamall. We came there about 11:30 and there were already a lot of people. We didn't call for reservation though but thankfully there are still seats available.

DADS World buffet offers a lot of foreign cuisines as much as Filipino food.
Since I'm a meat lover, I indulged with different meat selections around like lechon, crispy pata, roasted turkey, roast beef, katsus, dumplings and many more.

X-MEN: Days of Future Past

"The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The characters from the original X-Men film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from X-Men: First Class in an epic battle that must change the past - to save our future." Written by Twentieth Century Fox -IMDB

Hooked with these time-travel themed movies and series lately and I just won't let this movie pass! Well, one thing I learned when you time travel, either to the future or to the past, is that you can't change anything. You just have to be an observer; watching these people go by,talking, laughing, walking and dying. Because if you would try to save someone who was meant to die, it might change the whole future though.
But in Marvel Universe, it seems the X-Men will do everything to save the future, even teaming up with their past selves! Cool! If it were me, and I would have a chance to go back to the past and see the younger me, I would encourage my "younger me" to try sports and be athletic! Because I am not really into sports right now (yeah, what's sports? lol) , and I would like to see how will it work if I did. But one thing's for sure, I would have a very nice and toned body by now. Or abs. Or muscles. LoL!

Okay, let's just watch the trailer below!

That's how we relax ourselves in fact you'll just hear us singing those covers while writing papers or observing plates.

Summer Dress Picks from Koees.com

Summer is fast approaching! Do you already have fashion ideas for summer?
Personally, I'm lazy to dress up during cold months. During those times I just grab the thickest and snuggest top and bottom. But for summer, I enjoy mix matching clothes and colors! Especially dresses since I feel so girly and carefree and  dancing under the sun!

I'm going to show you some of my summer dress picks from an online shop, Koees.com . I browsed through their site and found these cute dresses that complement the sunny weather.

If you're a monochrome lover like me, then this is so perfect for you! Who says you can't go floral without being too girly? This dress looks sophisticated and sharp yet the pink hem gives the cute contrast.

From a simple one (or in fact half) flower dress, let's move to this one!
The blue color reminds me of the sea yet the floral skirt gives the ethereal feel! Imagine yourself walking through the park or the streets of Metro. Breezy!

Okay this one is when you're tired of the maxi skirts/dress. Jumper skirts! All you need is a plain white shirt and voila! With just a two piece clothing, this can be your "lazy outfit" during summer that will surely grab a second look.

Boarding a ship?Travelling through high seas? Look like the captain of fashion with this nautical design!

Psychedelic patterns look chic during summer! It wasn't overdone in this dress. Still fab!

It's fun to play with outfits this summer so don't waste the chance while the sun's still out!
You can visit Koees.com to get those dresses! Or browse their site for more!

Happy Summer!

Love,
MoMo

Jumped inside the TARDIS

The real reason why I am MIA for 2 months. Haha.
Tsk tsk tsk. Doctor, when will you be getting us back in the right time?

But really, with all the school work they dumped us when the new year started, the only thing that fits my break times is watching Doctor Who or writing my Codals (Philippine Civil Code, yes). And hopefully you'll excuse me for that. I have lots of things to blog but I don't have much time to edit pictures and draft a blog post but I hope this post will do for a while. After my acads and my orders I think I can manage to blog again more.

AND if some Whovian in the Philippines is reading this because I mentioned the TARDIS... then I am obliged to tell where I took this picture with my friend Carmela. It's only a TARDIS door located inside the College of Mass Communication building (near the auditorium) in UP Diliman. Inside it is a exhibit of an organization (thus the logo). If you like to have a photo ops too, you can visit there. We just hope it would still be there next week. :)

In fact we went there few minutes before our exam haha XD And we were reviewing while going there (our exam is on CHE and the TARDIS door is on CMC building). And we were surprised when we saw in one of the bonus questions in our exam this "If you're not taking the exam now, where will I find you and what will you be doing?"  and I answered:

"JUMPED INSIDE THE TARDIS, TRAVELLING WITH THE DOCTOR"

Oh well.

NICHIDO Lip Liner in Rosette Review (plus Doctor Who stuff!)

It's fun how exchange gifts and wishlists influence you to try out a new product. Haha! We had an exchange gift two weeks ago in our newsletter team and because the giver should be a "secret" we created a wishlist where everybody could write what they want to receive. Thankfully my "baby" just wanted either a USB or The Big Bang Theory Episodes. So I gave her Loki earrings! Haha!
WHICH I MADE! EXCUSE ME! And she requested that from me long before. #excuses
Okay, well I noticed that on the wishlist, two girls wanted to receive a NICHIDO lip liner. And considering we have a 100 minimum budget, I thought that this was really cheap! So I checked this one out!

I found out that this comes in four shades: Blaze (red color), Spice (coral shade), Roseberry (nude) and this one Rosette (warm pink/brown/natural).

Price: P100! Very affordable for a student budget!

One stroke on my hand

As you can see, it gives off a natural, warm, pink+brown color and it matches my lips perfectly! Perfect for everyday look to school! I really love wearing a natural looking lip product whenever I go to school so it's not very obvious yet you look neat and nice. And it's my first time to try out a lip liner and it really works fine!

Pros:
Good pigmentation
Nice color on my lips
Doesn't hurt my lips when applying because it has a creamy consistency
Perfect for go-to looks/"no make-up look"/natural look

Cons:
The shade is so natural on my lips I almost thought at first I didn't put anything at all! (Well, I want to try out the other shades too!)
Creaminess of the product tend to smudge and feather, but not too much. No worries about that actually.

Will I buy again?
Yes! But different shades! I would love to try Blaze and Spice. I was actually torn between buying Spice or Rosette. But I loved the redness of Blaze!

Under daylight

But I absolutely love how it looks under daylight. I love how can be matched with less-to-no make up at all or with bronzers+blush ! In fact I can totally wear it on it's own and still look like I just got out from bed! LOL! haha!

Powder + Nichido lip liner + messy hair= beach babe just-woke-up-and-I'm-off-to-go

See what I mean? Haha!

And of course, it reminds me of Amy Ponds' look! I know you know that I'm still watching Doctor Who Season 6 and she's one of the reasons why I love the show! And I'm really keen on copying her look! Hahaha! I also want ginger hair!!!!!!

(photo grabbed from net)

Well with a dash of eyeliner, mascara, cheek tint and brow liners (and ginger hair!!) and off you rock Karen Gillan's look in here!

Talking about Doctor Who, let me just say that I'm one of the fans that really love Matt Smith's role as the 11th Doctor and now that he left the show to pass the torch to Peter Capaldi, I really wish Matt to have an awesome career outside Who!

As a tribute to the 11th Doctor,
I made a COMMEMORATIVE 11TH DOCTOR'S OUTFIT: BOWTIES ARE COOL EARRINGS

Hope you guys, Whovians, Doctor Who fans, loved them. :)
It's the best I could do to express my lateness (in every sense of the word) and love for the show and Matt Smith. :)

P.S. GUYS, I HAVEN'T WATCHED "TIME OF THE DOCTOR" YET.
So don't send me spoilers please! I know nothing about Clara yet! Hahahahaha! I'm still in Season 6! (Episode 11, to be exact -____ - ) . So please be good to me! :)

But anything you want to discuss, just comment below! :)

Love,
Momo

Mga Anino ng Kahapon (Shadows of the Past) Premiere Night + Review

It has been a while since I watched an indie film with a critical eye on the story line.
Mga Anino ng Kahapon (Shadows of the Past) is a story of a schizophrenia patient, Irene (Agot Isidro), as she and her family undertake the situation and the treatment of her illness.

I never doubted Ms. Agot Isidro's acting skills. She's ageless and very versatile and especially in this role where she needs to represent a simple, caring mother and wife to her family-turned paranoid, schizophrenia patient. Both she and her husband, Ed (TJ Trinidad) are nurses and when Ed went to Dubai to work overseas, she was left with their son, her mother-in-law and brother-in-law. Due to frightening events that happen around their area and traumatic experiences of Irene in the past, lead her to be protective of her family and all of a sudden, develop symptoms of schizophrenia. She sees and hears voices and "house guests" and recalls the moments during Martial Law.

TJ Trinidad (Ed) and Agot Isidro (Irene)

The story revolves around the development of the illness, and how the family adjust and help with her treatment. The movie shows how the patient could develop such illness how it could affect the relationships within the family.

I liked the flow of the story where it develops efficiently with the characters. Change where the change is needed. Plus the hindered disclosures breaks the monotony of the story line. Also the cinematography is good, they used the continuous shooting technique and close-up shooting to make the audience feel like they are with them and see the emotions deeply.

It's not a glamorous film. Low-key, might be. But the "feels" and emotions are heart-felt.
The movie has a message not only about schizophrenia, which is indeed the core, but most of all about the role of the family in this kind of situation.

TJ Trinidad is fitting for Ed's role since the character needs a strong and faithful personality. I personally think he is too handsome for the role! Haha! Anyway, he did really good and I can't help thinking, when we were inside the cinema, of his reaction watching himself in this kind of film?
It's my first time to watch a movie with the actor/actress watching with us and it really feels strange.

Cast and crew.

All in all, Mga Anino ng Kahapon is a very good, inspiring and heart-felt movie. It may not bring you to tears instantly but I assure to you that the ending will put you in the verge of crying, at least. Well, you'll never know when. :)
And that is an applause to the Director and Writer, Alvin Yapan and all of the cast for a memorable film. Yes, it left an impression. A very good impression, indeed.

After the movie we had photos!! Yay!

Watch Mga Anino ng Kahapon at these following cinemas and schedules.

Mga Anino ng Kahapon (Shadows of the Past) is under MMFF New Wave Category.
Let us support Filipino films!

Love,
Momo :)

P.S. Thanks (again) Ate Melai for the invite! :)

5 Reasons Why I end up becoming a Doctor Who fan (and YOU should too!)

5 days from now until "The Time of The Doctor" will be shown and also the last appearance of Matt Smith as the Doctor. So I made this blog post to celebrate my current conversion to the Doctor Who fandom. Yeah! I'm a new convert! So what do we call ourselves? Whovians? Haha XD
Anyway, I just started watching Doctor Who around 3 weeks ago. [TOLD YOU I'M NEW, FRESHLY BREWED CONVERT!!] And I started with Season 5, Matt Smith's reign as the Doctor and Karen Gillan as Amy Pond, his companion. The idea of Doctor Who to me before was it's a sci-fi show that has a lot of complexities that I would find it hard to cope up with if I decided to start watching it sometime. Plus the regeneration-thingy makes me think that it's like a never-dying/we-will-keep-it-long show. (Imagine what I think of that now.) I have few friends that would rant to me about the Doctor being dead (or it was like "Moffat likes killing his actors!" like what he did to Sherlock haha XD ). That didn't trouble me before until now!

So what pulled me into the rabbit hole?

Here are my 5 reasons!

1.) THE FANS (or what they call themselves WHOVIANS)

They were actually the first one who influenced me. What the fans did on the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who. One of my friends in Facebook, along with her friends and Whovian Philippines, had a costume party to celebrate the Golden Anniversary of the show. They dressed up like the characters, in coats, neckties, bowties, with a blue policebox (that I really don't understand what that is since). For me, that was really amazing. To think even the fans here in the Philippines would make an effort like that for their beloved show, it must be a really good one to watch!

(Photo from: Geanne Flores here )

2.) THE ACTOR
Matt Smith is my first doctor (my raggedy doctor... *.* ). When I first saw him on the Eleventh Hour (which is also my first episode to watch) I remembered Jim Carey! But that's not it. Haha XD Matt is quirky, cunning and fun to watch and his portrayal of his role as the Doctor is what is instilled in our minds. Weird but lovable and cheerfully smart! Who doesn't love his dramatic monologues? (Legs. Yes. Bowties. Cool.) Matt is also young and hot which makes him more "reachable" than my other British crushes like Ben and Tom.
Although I might sound biased (okay I'm already there), I'm excited to watch his predecessors too!  What about his successor, Peter Capaldi? Well, I think we'll be having a hard time coping up with him since he's a lot older than Matt but who knows? Matt has been under that critics and fans's noses too when he started as the Doctor but now he proved that his absence would break a lot of hearts! So Peter Capaldi will have to do his very best to mend the broken hearts and impress the Whovians.

3.) THE COMPANION
Amy Pond. The Girl Who Waited.
Does that sound nicer if that's your name instead? Haha XD Kidding.
Anyway, Amy is also my first and her strong, brave and sassy character makes me like her so much! Karen and Matt's off cam relationship is also cute! Especially when I watch Doctor Who Confidential eps, their flirting and accent (I love her Scottish accent!) is enough to make my heart jump! With the whims and lonesomeness of the Doctor, he certainly needs someone to be with him to travel through different time and space and show how impressive he is is time-travelling with his TARDIS. Well after all, he is a mad man with a box, some nice girl would do to give some sanity... or not.

4.) THE BOX, THE PLANETS, AND THE OTHER DIMENSIONS IN SPACE AND TIME
Endless possibilities. Different times, different space. Long ago or million years after.
Doctor Who gives us at least an episode of not the usual earth-thing. Starting with his bright blue box that's bigger on the inside to the bubble universes, parallel dimensions, starships, talking planets; name it, the Doctor can give you a glimpse of them. Any time you prefer. It's awesome how they can come up with the idea of each of them but one thing's sure; anywhere or anytime you put the Doctor and his companion, there will be an adventure coming. It's fun to see how creative they can be. That's one reason why we are kept on our seats.

5.) THE HEAD WRITER: STEVEN MOFFAT

I became a Sherlock fan first before Doctor Who. But back then I really thought that Steven Moffat is really a genius writer and wouldn't run out of creative juices. All the suspense, the elements of surprise, the tricky twists, and unraveled endings (and cliffhangers) is just so HIM. Not to mention his witty scripts that will make you laugh every now and then. How he turns a freaky episode to a heart warming realization (e.g. The Beast Below, Time of Angels, Flesh and Stone) is just brilliant! Although he loves "killing" his characters and props (read: fez), he's got a nice turn up point of the characters.  I wonder if he loves grand entrance? Because his characters surely does. No wonder he usually writes the firsts and lasts episodes. Haha! I would love to meet him soon. Or work with him! *Salutes*

It's not hard to love Doctor Who. Maybe the boredom, or the curiosity or the long wait for Sherlock pulled me into this black hole but what ever the reasons are, every episode kept me wanting for more. And I'm still on even after Matt Smith's reign, I still want to see what Peter Capaldi has up in his sleeve. Oh wait, will he be wearing that bow tie too? Gotta watch out!

What about you? Are you part of the WHOVIAN fandom? :) Comment below! :)

Love,

MoMo :))
