Foodstagram: Food made in Lab!

Hello there!

   Just want to share with you what I've been doing here in UP! Haha! Yes, I'm studying. But this course of mine is really fun to study! Haha! In time with those of you who took the UPCAT last weekends. Good luck!! Hope you've already decided what course to take- what you really know and love- because mind you, SHIFTING  is a tedious and, either  a heart-breaking or heart- pounding process. We use to have this inside joke that UP stands for "University of Pila" since every sem and enrollment weeks, the lines (especially prerog and payment) are too long! So it take much time before you get through the enrollment (and shifting) process which is, you'll probably experience NOT ON YOUR FIRST YEAR/SEM. So good luck also with that! And why am I talking about that huh? I just shifted from my first love, Computer Engineering but unfortunately we're not meant to be, so I shifted to Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management! I think it's a destined love. So here I am now sharing to you my venture!

          Also if you picked this course here in UP, this might be a little intro to you. Hopefully this will motivate you to pass the UPCAT! Haha! Of course this involves a little cooking that is why we have this subject. Don't jump into conclusions- this is not what really defines the course.  Remember, intro? :) But to add the flair of surprise, I won't mention the subject name.(unless you've been my follower on Instagram! @moriela20 ). This class is like culinary class with chemistry. And for the month of June and July, here are the foods done by our group and the other groups! Some of them are posted on my Instagram (and more to follow!).

For the first few weeks, we prepared simple recipes. Usually involved a lot of waiting and mixing. But always, we do sensory evaluation of the prepared food.

1st Week!
Our group made a fondant!

That ensaymada's mine actually! Haha! It's only the fondant we made.

2nd Week: Our favorite! Ice Creams!!!

Ingredient for the Strawberry Nugget Ice cream!

3rd Week!
We also made Pancit Luglog! Yuuuumm!! This was partnered with the ice cream so it was like there was a party inside the lab!

Biko, Maja Blanca, Chicharon (used as a topping for Pancit Luglog) and our Pancit Luglog!

 4th Week
So far our the most arduos ( exaggerated, yes) so far, yet I won't forget how these smell and taste, the cinnamon rolls. That time we learned that making bread is very hard and takes a lot of time and patience than regular pan cooking.

Doughnuts made by the other group

5th Week!
Next we made biscuits and kalabasa tarts!

Blind baking!

Biscuits! Just out of the oven!

Buttered biscuits!

Our kalabasa tarts took a lot of time to cook since it required blind baking of the crust.
Meanwhile here are the other products of the other groups.
Banana Cream Pie

 Herb Pasta

Here they did manually the pasta. When I say manually, I meant of creating those from flour mixture-strand by strand!

After a long while, here are the kalabasa tarts! I made the filling of those!!! #soproud :)

 Agghh food porn! Yes I know! Keep checking my updates on my IG account @moriela20 for

Cover Snaps: July Issue- Chrome vs. Vibrance

-->
Hello Charmed!
Here I am again writing about magazines! Haha XD Anyways, I hope you'll like reading about
"Cover Snaps", because I'm totally into this. You know, visiting a local bookstore and (feeling) being a critique. Hohoho! This is so fun! You should try this sometimes.
Here are the magazine covers for the month of July! I noticed that the magazines just played with two concepts: Black-White combo or Color play. Midyear fashion is really hard to predict since we shift seasons in fashion also. But how did the magazines play it? Take a look!

I've seen the tweets of Vogue last June that their cover girl for the July ish is the California girl, Katy Perry and they had this video on their website featuring Katy sans make-up! I haven't seen yet the vid but Katy on Vogue, she look like she just came out from Twilight series (because of her eyes and blood red lipstick), thankfully her dress showed some skin and I liked the roses print and that grass backdrop. Fresh and romantic Katy, yes.
-->

Now we move on to the younger version! And as I told you before!! Emma's never out of the scene! But in fairness eh, I liked the "freckled" version of Emma Watson here. Yep, it's like Emma sans make-up ish but she rocked it! I'm not biased! Haha! But I really stared for 5 good minutes just to check if there is something wrong in my eyes. They emphasized her (freckled) face by putting up her hair and styling her with silver accessories and an off-shoulder top. And what do you think about that smile? Clever.

-->

Meanwhile, the cheaper and local counterpart of Teen Vogue (well, in a sense, maybe) has done an entirely different take. Carly Rae Jepsen is sporting that fresh edgy make-up ( I would really like to wear that look in school but UP's weather won't make it last long!) , bangs, and a salmon-colored top. Perfect statement style for college girls and teens, I say. Despite her age, Carly Rae seems to look very young! Inspiring? Hmm. Maybe :)

-->
I've never seen Shakira for a long time and I think that's why I missed her when I see her on the cover of ELLE. I stared at it but I wasn't that captivated. It's just that bold yellow letters that caught my eye and the image of a renowned singer I haven't seen on screen for long.

-->
Local scene!

Our fave local teens, Jasmine Curtis and Julia Montes for Mega showed how black-and-white outfits can change you from a trendy-sweetie to a high-fashion lady. Though I couldn't get the concept that much (err, the ropes), it's not out of place either. They both made the pose, but I think that's all. I just hope you won't get bored staring at them!

-->

Meg magazine has Isabelle Daza as their belle for July. As you can see, the same concept (obviously, since they are both under Mega publishing), edgier and more mature than the above one, but I noticed Isabelle's hair here. Belle's hair is really long, but for that "city chic" look, especially if you're working, a short blunt cut hair is recommended. Nice take.

-->
Meanwhile, Metro plays "fashion fun with colors" with Empress Schuck and Joseph Marco on the cover. I like how they shoot outdoor for this (not really playing safe, aren't they?). And they were able to "bring" their outfits very well, even the outfit of Joseph Marco. If you're not the minimalist type, you could always go with colors and prints. Definitely.

Oh well, that's all I have for July! Drop by and leave your comment below! :)

Momo

Cover Snaps: June Issue

Hello Charmed!

      I've been strolling around the local bookstore for some inspiration, usually about fashion and magazine matters and I happen to see the latest covers of the some famous page flippers! I took pictures of some that grabbed my attention (read: critique). Covers are really important, first of all because magazines are usually sealed before you buy them!  Next is the appropriateness of the theme/article teasers to your  taste and need. Some are new, some are fresh, some stuck to the old fad. If they effective or not? Let's look at the covers!

I would give Vogue a thumbs-up for their July issue. In this "Ageless Style Issue",  making Helena Bonham Carter as their cover girl  was  a nice classic twist from the usual fashion forward themes.   Women from mid20s to 40s won't miss a chance to catch a glimpse of this, especially those who are torn between keeping or throwing their classic pieces and buying the trends (read: summer cleaning). It's like Bellatrix saying "Hey, you could still be fabulous even after 20 years in Azkaban!". Don't you love the hair?

 Meanwhile here's the June issue of Vogue featuring Kate Moss. I liked how they made summer issue a high fashion one. But isn't too overwhelming? Kate Moss is regarded as a top model, they could have get a "not-so top" one for this issue (obviously, Tyra Banks won't work too).  Beach chic? Why not Cameron Diaz? Or Gwyneth Paltrow? The could also do a high-fashion shot, yet their cheerful vibe is what I want to see during the summer issue. Looking at the those Vogue issues, I could say that Helena knocked it off.

A back-to-school issue won't be over without featuring Emma Watson as a cover girl in at least one magazine. Trust me. It seems like the people can't get enough of her brainy Hermione/Sam character. In fairness to her, I liked how she sport a sexy preppy teen in here. A fresh, neat look and a strategic peek-a-boo cuts just show that you could stand out and in your own simple way! Really geek + chic!

In the local scene, Metro and ABS CBN did a good job on marketing both the magazine and their cover girl. Kathryn Bernardo sported a coming of age, minimalist look in here. With a classic  white midriff dress and a breath-taking cool layout made a different  take  from her  sweet demure image. But I also remembered Charice's cover on Preview (Jan.Feb issue) before, doing the same fierce pose in a minimalist up-do.
Hmmm…. What do you think?

This is not a glossy paper but this got my attention too!

 Cool sequel title. Haha XD

Anyway, they are just my opinions. This is what I gain after a year of writing for a magazine, I think. But I feel like doing this every month! It's fun. I hope I can hear from you too. What do you think about these covers?

Love,

MoMo
